Well-Known Local Attorney Blesses Youth at TACOLCY

"You're blessed to be a blessing." That's exactly the message famed local attorney Marlon Hill wanted to relay to youth at the TACOLCY Center on Wednesday, Sept. 28 when he surprised two deserving young scholars with a ride around town in a beautiful, bright red Chevy Corvette Convertible.

Hill won a week-long loan of the car at a monthly membership luncheon for the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.

A long-time TACOLCY supporter, Hill thought it would be special to expose some of the scholars to an opportunity they may rarely get - a chance to take a sweet ride in a fast car.

"In receiving this week long vehicle gift from GM/Chevrolet, I wanted to be sure to share the blessings, especially to any young person who may never have an opportunity to ride in a convertible Corvette. The TACOLCY Center is a beacon for kids in Liberty City and we wanted to reward two of their special kids for their exemplary behavior and grades with this treat. It is my hope that they would be inspired by the treat and their own potential."

And just who were the lucky scholars to hit the town with Hill?

Six-year-old Omar Wright Jr. and 13-year-old Justin McRae were selected by TACOLCY's Assistant Program Coordinator Denise Rainey for their good behavior.

“Omar was chosen because of his positive attitude, good behavior and willingness to mediate conflicts amongst other scholars. He is such a great little boy,” Rainey said. "Justin was chosen because I felt like he needed the exposure to counter some of the hardships he’s experienced; additionally he is a well-mannered teen,” she continued.

Both boys were thrilled to be chosen and thankful for the opportunity.
